Periscope to Twitter: How important is it to the businesses? Periscope has gone from being a startup to being acquired to rise in prominence within Twitter’s ranks as a major pillar of the company’s efforts to jump the queue to compete with others. It quickly launched on iOS and Android devices and is viewable on the Web. It became one of the first apps to debut on the Apple TV. New features have been rapidly added to the service, such as landscape support, web profiles, the ability to skip ahead in replays, GoPro video support, and viewing streams within tweets. Periscope, twitter’s live streaming service is now widely popular with even content producers at YouTube making use of it to hint their next videos etc. It has proven its value. Periscope announced that it has surpassed 200 million total live streams since its debut in March 2015. The app announced that it reached 100 million live streams in January, doubling its total within three months. Although these figures won’t include the streams viewed through Twitter app. Periscope's rapid growth is now all but important to Twitter's future.Periscope's user base was just 10 million as of August 2015, while Twitter was at more than 300 million.Periscope also helps Twitter stay in competition with other social media giants. Although, one of the first live stream apps to hit the market, now Facebook, Google, and Snapchat are into that space. Periscope’s acquisition is now vital for Twitter to stay in live streaming markets. The app is yet to find ways for monetization. If that happens, maybe we might see brands shelling out funds to advertise on the platform too. Some brands are already in the game with BMW using Periscope to promote the debut of their new model. While Twitter can rely on periscope, it’s now clear that the mobile video space is varying a lot. Facebook, Snapchat, YouTube connect from Google are all factors with which Twitter must contend using periscope in the coming months to stay popular.
