Instagram have calmed their use-base regarding the possibility of a New Algorithm
"We're not changing anything about your news feed yet" Instagram said in their blog post. Instagram is trying to reassure its millions of users that there's no reason to panic. The social media firm promises on no changes as of now in their working algorithm pattern.
Instagram received a lot of backlash from the user-base after they announced about switching over to a new algorithmic filtering. The new algorithm would be based on social media posts based on user's behaviors and interests instead of filing them in chronological order as a typical routine of Instagram now. "We're still testing about the new technique and how it works and there's nothing to worry about it right now" the company said. While algorithmic filtering is nothing new in social media, its parent company Facebook operates on the algorithmic pattern in its news feed, post sorting and user data calculations based on status updates to the most relevant user.
Twitter also does it, with tweets popping up while a user is away with the goal of creating most interesting and pushing up sponsors' adverts etc. But this has fueled a debate about majority of them questioning about the firm as to why would they resort to something that's new than sticking to the current chronological timeline operations. The big shift over to filtering all social content would create less drama and get a more unfiltered experience to users.
Instagram's CEO Kevin Systrom explained about how people missed about seventy percent of posts in their Instagram feed insisting in proposing a change about assuring the rest thirty people to see the "best thirty percent possible" But the users however are not really adamant on the change instead pretty much infuriated about the recent proposed changes. This included celebrities and businesses being nervous about their follower-base not seeing many of their posts anymore insisting to ask followers to turn on notifications in-app thereby keeping all their followers ensured about updates anytime and every time a user posts a new photo.
There's also a Change.org petition calling hundreds of thousands of supporters asking Instagram to stick to chronological order. It had gathered over three hundred thousand signatures with a five hundred thousand goal. Computer filtering of timelines is becoming inevitable as apps struggle to lure advertises and remain relevant. Instagram's blog read that "To improve your experience, your feed will soon be ordered to show the moments we believe you will care about the most. The order of photos and videos in your feed will be based on the likelihood you'll be interested in the content, your relationship with the person posting and the timeliness of the post.
As we begin, we're focusing on optimizing the order - all the posts will still be there, just in a different order. If your favorite musician shares a video from last night's concert, it will be waiting for you when you wake up, no matter how many accounts you follow or what time zone you live in. And when your best friend posts a photo of her new puppy, you won't miss it.We're going to take time to get this right and listen to your feedback along the way. You'll see this new experience in the coming months."
