4K PlayStation 4 release date and rumors: Would it really work?

After reports from a major Chinese whisperer the concept of a mid-generation upgrade to the PS4 is likely to be true. 4K-capable PS4 and Xbox One consoles will be out in autumn, according to rumors.

Sony of course are hardly reacting by staying silent, but the recent developments of Sony coming out to their own virtual-reality hardware, the ability to play 4K games is likely happening with PlayStation VR later this year. Netflix are also confident that the revised editions are likely out this year.

Another addition to the console market, one capable of 4K and the other without one, would likely be advertised side-by-side. This would also likely result in a price reduction of the existing console which is now itself listed at around 349$ or approximately 25,000rupess (can be bought during sales in India at that price).

This would result in sales for the existing console anyway since people are more adamant on experiencing virtual-reality and 4K in the PC Master Race than consoles due to wide choices and popularity in the user-base. This would result in Sony and Microsoft providing some pretty good content with even Microsoft to bring out a 4K competitor according to the rumor mill. Sony are already selling their VR gear and this would result in people procuring the VR gear with or without the console.

Sony should keep it in mind that their content should be out with a life-changing experience since selling them on the idea that it'd be better on 4K should be justified. Meanwhile on the master race, VR is now already a thing with both the red and the green side coming out with massive driver updates compatible for 4K experience. A move from the console side, would result in a competition.

Developers nowadays for PC just make their games for graphic settings in game letting people select what options they'd want to get adapted to. And now developers theoretically need to just develop two settings than a range of customization options. So both of the games would be the same, one for 4K textures with some better particle effects and the other, the existing.

On a technical aspect, it's fairly easy to imagine how this would come out. But marketing seems to be the gamble. One wrong move and it could be a debacle with people ending up confused.
