Lenovo Buyers, Beware of the ‘Super-Fish’. The biggest giant, based at Silicon Valley and Israel, is retoured to have imported a deal of laptops from a company, which come with certain per-loaded software’s. Unfortunately, one of the software’s called the ‘Super-Fish’ aids hackers to track personal information of users, when the users use these laptops for online transactions, banking and so on. Usually, the exchange of goods is done for certain fixed financial sums or commissions. However, the transaction that the company entered during September and December last year is claimed to be financially insignificant. The company claimed that, “Our goal was to enhance the experience of the users; we recognise that the software did not meet that goal and have acted quickly and decisively”. The primary purpose for transacting laptops pre-installed with the Super-Fish software was to enhance the computer-user interface when it comes to online shopping. It was designed to show products, information which was similar to interests of the user, and thereby providing a smooth way of exploring various products on the web. However, it acted detrimental to the user’s interests, as it could act as a tool in the hands of the expert hackers by helping them to extract personal information of any user. However, in order to hack such information, the third world had to get the information of the person using the system and the user must have operated the transaction in a public Wi-Fi. On the other hand, the Super-Fish software appears to re-use the same encryption certificate for every computer, which means a hacker who cracked the Super-Fish could have broad access to a variety of online transactions, which is highly dangerous. As a safety measure, the company has removed the software in the gadgets which are yet to enter the market and the company claims to have stopped the transaction since January. Lenovo has also announced guidelines to remove Super-Fish from the system. However, customers ought to take a tour of the laptops, before taking a step ahead to have one.
