Benedict Cumberbatch’s Sophie Hunter over the Valentine's Day weekend
English actor Benedict Cumberbatch has tied the knot with fiancée Sophie Hunter over the Valentines weekend, surprising fans worldwide, according to reports.
Cumberbatch's spokeswoman confirmed yesterday that the couple - pictured at the recent Baftas in London - had wed at the weekend, surrounded by close family and friends, according to the Independent news.
Hunter, 36, and Cumberbatch appeared together in the 2009 thriller "Burlesque Fairytales." The couple, who announced their engagement with an eight-line item in the Times of London in November, said last month they are expecting their first child.
The Imitation Game star, 38, and theatre director Hunter announced their engagement in November (14), five years after they met on the set of thriller Burlesque Fairytales in 2009. In early January (15), they revealed they are expecting their first child.
"It was a magical day" said the actor's spokesman to BBC.
The Imitation Game star is set to appear at the Oscars on Feb. 22, where he is nominated for Best Actor.
"One of the most incredible things about getting engaged, which we had no idea would be coming back our way, is the amount of love that just comes flooding back," Cumberbatch told People magazine after the news of the impending nuptials broke. "I thought it was just all about us declaring that we were in love and getting married, but actually it's the world going, 'We love you too!' It's amazing. Family, friends, the world ... it's amazing."
