Samsung Galaxy S6 Update: Two All-Metal Versions To Be Released With Improved Front Facing Camera
Samsung is planning to release two new versions of Galaxy S6, featuring all-metal body including a model with a 3-sided screen, according to a new report.
Bloomberg, citing people with direct knowledge reported that both of the phones will sport Samsung's most advanced processor chips. However, in the upcoming Mobile World Congress, the company will only unveil the model with front-facing display.
Both variants of the Samsung Galaxy S6 will feature 5.1-inch screens.
Apple has been aggressively eating away shares of Samsung in the global smartphone market after the launching larger sized iPhones recently. "Asia's biggest technology company is using its skills in displays and chips to recapture its innovation edge and revive earnings that have slumped for three straight quarters," Bloomberg notes.
"Samsung need a model with new technology to stop the iPhone juggernaut and to distinguish it from others," said Lee Sang Hun, a Seoul-based analyst at HI Investment & Securities Co. "Although Samsung is continuing to release cheaper models globally to defend its market share, the next S phone is more important because that's where they make money."
Samsung launched the first smartphone with curved screen last year as Galaxy Note Edge.
In a blog post Samsung SVP DongHoon Jang teased about the photo capabilities of yet to launched Galaxy smartphone. Highlighting the recent work Samsung has done to improve the front-facing camera, Jang hinted that the Samsung Galaxy S6 would have at least 5 megapixel sensor.
He added that the cameras on this year's flagship will be "intelligent and do all the thinking for users, allowing them to take amazing pictures under any conditions" with just a simple shutter press.
