Giants companies are getting hooked in the self-driving innovation nowadays. One of these companies is Nvidia. The company known for its graphics cards and processors has taken another step into the self-driving car industry.

Google, Tesla Motors, Ford, Baidu USA and Mercedes-Benz are getting approval to get permission from the California DMV for a test run of its own self-driving car on public roads. Nvidia was granted permit last week and the branded car was spotted in the Bay Area this weekend.

In 2015, the Nvidia CEO Jen-Hsun Huang had a meeting with Elon Musk at CES 2016. The main agenda is to develop chips that will support advanced artificial intelligence. Nvidia is well known for its GPU technology. Thus, this will give the planned self-driving cars into the platform for smaller algorithms.

The CEO revealed the Drive PX 2 platform. This is the most powerful engine to incorporate artificial intelligence into self-driving car systems. In September, the self-driving cars of Baidu will be powered by the Drive PX 2 of Nvidia. The company spent over $2 billion to develop the P100 process for Tesla packing a huge number of 150 billion transistors on a single chip.

The open platform will run on a single processor and supports Auto Cruise functions. It has a highway automated driving, consumes just ten watts of power, and let the multiple PX 2 platforms be used in parallel. It enables energy efficient module capabilities to a powerful AI autonomous driving. These AI cars can run on a network of multiple cameras and sensors.

The Drive PX 2 features the advanced deep learning, sensor fusion, and surrounds vision which precisely can locate itself on an HD map for planning a safe path forward. AI platforms are built with a unified architecture and trained on a system in the data center.
