Fans of the Japanese anime and manga series "Ghost in the Shell" are furious about the whitewashing in casting of characters with Caucasians being given preference to take the lead role. But after the teaser trailer was released, reactions were mixed with some giving justification on why Hollywood actress Scarlet Johansson is perfect in leading the Public Security Section 9.

The "Ghost in the Shell" has already been adapted into three anime films beginning in 1995 but it is only this time that the adaptation is live-action, starring the 31-year-old Scarlet Johansson. It is a futuristic science fiction movie that centers the battle in cyberspace.

In the "Ghost in the Shell" series, Major Motoko Kusanagi is a person's brain that was uploaded into an artificial shell to combat a virus program whose leader is known by the pseudonym, "Puppet Master." Unlike the previous anime films, the 2017 live-action focuses on visual effects and elaborate action stunts, based on its trailer earlier released. Major Motoko Kusanagai, or simply the "major," leads the counter-terrorist government organization in taking down cyber criminals. She is depicted to be a cyberborg, sexy yet lethal.

In a report from Forbes, the "Ghost in the Shell" is an expensive movie that warrants an A-list actor. The producers would want someone whom viewers can readily associate with. Scarlet Johansson has already starred in previous similar movies, delivering substance and justice into her characters such as those in "Under the Skin," "Her," "The Avengers" and "Lucy." In all of these movies, Johansson stirred and stimulated her audiences, without neglecting her primary role as a warrior. In all of her previous stunts as a warrior or someone "not normal," Johansson effectively gives you the adrenalin rush you are hoping for in a character. Seeing her facial expressions or the lack of it and the way she talks and executes from the trailer would tell you why she is perfect for her role.

"I am thrilled to have been given the opportunity to play the Major, and I am so excited to be able to show you a glimpse into her world," said Johansson as an intro into the teaser trailer. The "Ghost in the Shell" is set for release on March 17, 2017 and produced by Paramount Pictures.
