New World Wonders Include Seven Incredible Cities
The seven most incredible cities in the world have been revealed by a new global campaign.
According to News.com.au, the New7Wonders Cities was created by Swiss-born filmmaker and explorer Bernard Weber, who was in search for the best new spots across the globe for years.
When Weber asked the world in 2007 which seven wonders were the greatest, over 100 million votes were received, which had included votes for the Taj Mahal and the Great Wall of China. In 2011, he changed his focus to natural wonders and the winners included the Amazon and Jeju Island in South Korea.
Weber says that the latest list may seem surprising to many, but it showcases global diversity of urban society.
"We began with more than 1200 nominees from 220 different countries and here (we) have seven cities that represent the global diversity of urban society," Weber said.
"For the first time in human history, more than half of our planet's population lives in cities and this election emphasizes the dramatically challenging character of our changing world."
From a shortlist of 28 options, here are the incredible cities that made it to this year's seven world wonders:
1. Beirut, Lebanon
2. Doha, Qatar
4. Havana, Cuba
5. Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
6. La Paz, Bolivia
7. Vigan, Philippines
