A lone gunman, 38-year-old Cedric Larry Ford, sowed terror in central Kansas after being served a restraining order from the court leading him to go on a shooting rampage resulting in three dead and 16 wounded before he was killed by a local sheriff.

A deputy sheriff recalled serving him the court order at 3:30pm.The order restrained him from going near his ex-girlfriend who allegedly abused her. The police officer looked a 'little upset' but did not show anything that would indicate his outrageous behavior later on.

"I believe that probably is the trigger, and it went from there. He was randomly shooting people...I'm not aware he said a thing. This man was not going to stop shooting,' recalled Harvey County Sheriff T. Walton as reported by CNN.

Ford went into Excel Industries after 5pm and started a carnage using an assault rifle without a particular target in mind. He seemed fixed on spraying bullets to anyone he came across with until a Hesston Sheriff Dough Schroeder finally killed him.

"That particular officer's [referring to Schroeder] the hero out of all this. There's probably two or three hundred more people still in that plant. That guy was not going to stop shooting," said Walton as quoted by the New York Times.

The gunman was accused of domestic violence by his former live-in partner who wrote a petition urging for protection from her abuser.

"He is an alcoholic, violent, depressed. It's my belief he is in desperate need of medical & psychological help!" the woman wrote in her petition as quoted in a report by USA Today.
