49ers Colin Kaepernick Reportedly Seeking a Trade

The San Francisco 49ers and quarterback Colin Kaepernick do not appear to be on the same page.

Sources have told ESPN's Adam Caplan that Kaepernick's agents reportedly asked the 49ers for permission to seek a trade. These latest reports contradict what general manager Trent Baalke and first-year head coach Chip Kelly had to say about the quarterback's future with the franchise.

Baalke had said on Wednesday that Kapernick would be on the roster by April 1, the date that his salary worth $11.9 million would become fully guaranteed. Baalke also hinted that he is expecting Kaepernick to show up during the first day of offseason training camp, which is on April 4.

Kelly said to reporters at the NFL Combine in Indianapolis on Thursday, "He [Kaepernick] wants to be here. He's never expressed to me that he didn't want to be here. He expressed to me that he's excited about getting healthy and getting going. And we're excited about him getting healthy and getting going."

Kelly also had good things to say about Kaepernick's game.

"Kap's really good," Kelly said. "I mean, he had the ball on the 5-yard line [about]...to win a Super Bowl. You can just look at the tape to see how talented he is. You know, our job is acquiring talent, not getting rid of talent."

Kaepernick lost his starting position to Blaine Gabbert after going 2-6 this past season. Kaepernick has since undergone surgeries to his left shoulder, left knee and right thumb.

The 49ers have not commented about the reports claiming Kaepernick wants to leave San Francisco.
