New York Knicks Rumors: Phil Jackson Interested in Free Agent Norris Cole

The New York Knicks are reportedly interested in signing restricted free agent guard Norris Cole.

Cole, who was traded to the New Orleans Pelicans in February 2015 after playing with the Miami Heat, only started two of 28 games with the Pelicans. Although his role was limited to the bench, the 26-year-old averaged 9.9 points per game.

Maxwell Ogden with Daily Knicks at Fansided noted that Cole's postseason experience can be desirable. Ogden wrote:

"Cole is generally viewed as a player with the ceiling of a team's third guard, but his postseason experience is immense. He's a two-time NBA champion with three NBA Finals appearances, averaging close to or upwards of 20 minutes per game in each of those three seasons with the Miami Heat. A fiery competitor who's generally heralded for his passion and energy, Cole could be a solid addition in New York."

For the Knicks, Cole could add some depth behind Jose Calderon. The Knicks also have Langston Galloway and Jerian Grant as backups. The other team that is rumored to be eyeing Cole is the Philadelphia Sixers. The Sixers could use Cole to back up guard Tony Wroten. When Cole is on his game, his offense can come in handy. Cole can also be a threat from the three-point line.

Sam Amico of Foxsports.com reported that Cole will most likely re-sign with the Pelicans despite drawing some interest from other teams.

If Cole does stay put in New Orleans, he would most likely play behind Tyreke Evans.

For the 2014-15 season, Cole averaged 7.6 points and 3.4 assists in 24.4 minutes.
