Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt Marriage Update: Actress says she ‘Appreciates’ Pitt more after Working Together
Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt's marriage might be even stronger than before after working together on "By the Sea."
Jolie, who wrote, directed and starred in the romantic drama, recently spoke with PEOPLE about how difficult it was to be behind and in front of the camera.
"It was difficult to be both inside and outside of the scenes, to be able to give directions," Jolie explained. "It was hardest [when] I was directing our fight scenes."
"I'd be directing myself and him in a scene where we're having a fight, and I'd be pulling out the parts [of him] that have an aggression toward me or when you're frustrated with each other-it was very heavy," Jolie added reported by Vanity Fair. "We kept joking that all of the crew felt like they were living in a house where the parents were fighting and you don't know where to stand or where to look."
Despite the tension created on set for the scenes, Jolie stated, "I understand and appreciate his [Pitt] creative process and his work ethic even more than before."
"By the Sea," which is set in France during the mid-1970s, is about a struggling marriage between a former dancer, Vanessa (Jolie) and a writer, Roland (Pitt). The unhappy couple takes a trip to a seaside inn in France where they meet a pair of happy newlyweds.
"It focuses on three couples, all at different stages in their lives," Jolie said. "And at its center are the questions of what happened to Roland and Vanessa and why they are in the place they are now."
Jolie revealed that prior to filming, some of their friends thought that she and Pitt were crazy to play an unhappy couple shortly after they got married.
"We're proud of ourselves for being brave enough to try it," Jolie said.
This is the first time that Jolie and Pitt have acted together since they allegedly fell in love on the set of 2005's "Mr. and Mrs. Smith" when Pitt was married to Jennifer Aniston. Since then, Jolie and Pitt have gotten married. They currently have six children together.
"By the Sea," which also stars French actors, Mélanie Laurent and Melvil Poupaud, is scheduled to hit theaters on Nov. 13.
