Tonight Show Updates: Jimmy Fallon Returns after Gruesome Injury
Jimmy Fallon made his return to the 'Tonight Show' on Monday following a 2 week hiatus and spoke about his gruesome hand injury that almost cost him his finger.
The talk show host tripped on a braided rug on June 26 in his kitchen. His ring got caught on a countertop during the fall.
While getting up, the comedian noticed that his finger was now 'sideways' and he was immediately rushed to the New York City emergency room and was treated by the doctors for 'ring avulsion.'
"Apparently, the odds aren't great and usually they cut your finger off, but this guy did microsurgery for over six hours and had to take a vein out of my foot," Fallon said. "This is the craziest story - I was knocked out and didn't know any of this."
He remained in hospital for 10 days and is not expected to get back feeling in his finger for another 8 weeks.
"It completely looks fake," he said of the broken finger. "Like a cheap horror movie where you see a broken finger. It looks like that."
"I was watching TV and I was reading this meaning of life thing, and I think this is the meaning of my life," Fallon said. "I belong on TV and I should be talking to people who are watching, who are either in an ICU or wherever you are, at home, or if anyone's suffering at all - this is my job. I'm here to make you laugh."
