Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation Grants $15 Million to Environmental Groups
The Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation, which was started by the actor in 1998 has pledged to donate $15 million to more than 30 environmental groups who have been credited with ''implementing innovative and impactful conservation projects around the globe.''
In a statement, the 'Wolf of Wall Street' star said: ''The destruction of our planet continues at a pace we can no longer afford to ignore. We have a responsibility to innovate a future where the habitability of our planet does not come at the expense of those who inhabit it. I am proud to support these organisations who are working to solve humankind's greatest challenge.''
The environmental organizations that will receive the funds include Tree People, World Wildlife Fund, Save the Elephants and the Amazon Watch.
DiCaprio in his statement spoke highly of these groups and also said they were ""working to solve humankind's greatest challenge."
The Oscar nominated star has been committed in his quest to save the environment and animal wildlife. He managed to generate over $25 million at a charity event last year.
Items that were auctioned at the gala included a Harley Davidson motorcycle autographed by Martin Scorsese and Robert De Niro and U2 Bono's personal guitar.
