Nintendo, Universal Partner To Bring Video-Game Inspired Rides and Attraction In Parks
Nintendo and Universal Parks and Resorts have inked deal to bring theme park attractions based on the video game publisher's beloved characters and worlds to Universal properties.
"The immersive experiences will include major attractions at Universal's theme parks and will feature Nintendo's most famous characters and games. More details will be announced in the future, as the Nintendo and Universal creative teams work to create specific concepts," the press release announcing the deal read.
The news is only the latest sign that Nintendo is exploring other ways to expand revenue-generating opportunities from its creative portfolio.
The company recently announced its first plans to make games for smartphones and tablets in a deal inked with Japanese mobile game maker DeNA co.
Recently, the company reported that it turned a profit for its fiscal year ending in March, first since after posting loss in 2011. The reported net profit was $350 million (41.8 billion yen), higher than the forecasted $251 million (30 billion yen).
"The agreement brings two icons of entertainment together and represents a significant partnership for Nintendo as it expands the reach and popularity of its characters and intellectual property," the press release added.
