Jennifer Lawrence’s Massive Paycheck for ‘Passengers’ is around $20 Million
Jennifer Lawrence, one of the hottest starts in Hollywood, will reportedly be paid $20 million to star opposite Chris Pratt in Sony's space drama, "Passengers," The Hollywood Reporter announced.
THR added that although Lawrence's role is secondary to Pratt, Pratt's payday is only $10 million upfront. Pratt's contract will allow him to make more depending on how well his other Universal movie, "Jurassic World," does in the box office. The dinosaur reboot will open on June 12.
According to the Reporter, Lawrence was offered $20 million to sign on with the project. The 24-year-old actresses' agents stood firm on this fee, especially after it was revealed in 2014 that she and "American Hustle" co-star Amy Adams were paid significantly less than their male counterparts in that movie.
"The truth is that what women have to do is not work for less money," former Sony executive Amy Pascal said back in February in response to the paycheck differences. "They have to walk away. People shouldn't be so grateful for jobs."
If the $20 million is not agreed upon, Lawrence and Norwegian director Morten Tyldum, who worked on the Oscar nominated film, The Imitation Game, are planning on walking away from the project. Tyldum will be making $3 million. However, the chances that Sony will let Lawrence walk away form the project is slim.
"You've got the two biggest stars in the world. We're making the movie at a reasonable cost. It's a great script. It's all good," Neal Moritz, a producer on the upcoming project, commented.
If Lawrence nabbed the $20 million paycheck, it would put her on the same level as other big name celebrities, such as Leonardo DiCaprio, Sandra Bullock, Matt Damon, Robert Downey Jr. Angelina Jolie and Denzel Washington.
