The New York Jets first year general manager Mike Maccagnan has fired six members of the scouting staff just days after the 2015 NFL Draft ended.

"I appreciate their contributions to the organization and wish them the best in the future," Maccagnan said in a statement.

The highest-ranking official to get canned was Brendan Prophett, the pro personnel director. Prophett held this position for nine years and has been with the Jets since 2000. The other five employees who were fired were college scouts Rick Courtright, David Hinson, Cole Hufnagel, Chris Prescott and Seth Turner.

Hufnagel was hired by Mike Tannenbaum in 2006. The other four scouts were hired over the past two years by Maccagnan's predecessor, John Idzik.

Maccagnan, who was hired in January, has been reshaping the organization. He fired personnel executive Terry Bradway in order to hire Brian Heimerdinger and replaced director of college scouting Jeff Bauer with Rex Hogan.

Although it is not uncommon for a new general manager to keep staff members from the previous manager, Maccagnan has a scouting background and might already have key people in mind. The staff members from the previous manager would typically be let go after the draft to prevent them from telling new teams about their former team's draft selections and other information.

So far, Rod Graves, the senior director of football administration and Jackie Davidson, the manager of football administration, from Idzik's years remain on the staff.
