‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’ Director Joss Whedon Deletes Twitter
Joss Whedon is not too happy about fans' criticisms of his latest superhero movie, "Avengers: Age of Ultron." To avoid hearing more about people's reactions to the highly anticipated sequel of 2012's "The Avengers," Whedon decided to delete his Twitter account.
Whedon's final tweet on Monday read: "Thank you to all the people who've been so kind and funny and inspiring up in here."
On Twitter, Wheon has been mainly criticized for his portrayal of Black Widow/ Natasha Romanoff (Scarlett Johansson), which many called sexist and misogynistic.
Some of these tweets stated that he did a "hatchet job" on the one female lead in the movie while other tweets asked him why he does not know the words "strong female character."
Just last month, the 50-year-old director talked about the female characters in the movie. He told the New York Daily News that he wanted to make sure that Black Widow got just as many cool gadgets as the male characters in the film
Whedon said, "I try not to turn it into an agenda when I create but at some point you've gotta do a head-count. And I have a 10-year-old daughter. Her favorite characters from the first movie are (Black Widow) and Maria Hill. Cause who else she got? And it matters."
User John Galt (@atlasnodded) tweeted an image of some of the attacks Whedon received and wrote, "This is the real reason why @josswhedon left twitter. I don't blame him."
Although Whedon did not address these criticisms as well as why he left Twitter, comedian and actor Patton Oswalt blamed these fans for chasing "Joss Whedon off Twitter."
