Mariah Carey may be gracing the big screens this Christmas as a new report suggest the singer may be signing up to perform the lead in a new movie.

Deadline was the first to report the news, which reveals that New Line has purchased a film pitch from the elusive chanteuse, along with Brett's RatPac Entertainment, writers David Diamond and David Weissman, and producer Jon Shestack.

Though the plot of the movie is not being revealed, Mariah is said to play "a major role" in the feature.

This is not the first time that Mariah Carey has released something with a Christmas theme. Mariah Carey's Merry Christmas album was the pop singer's fourth studio album. It featured recreations of popular Christmas songs such as "Silent Night," "O Holy Night," and "Santa Claus Is Comin' to Town." The first single released from the album was "All I Want for Christmas Is You," which initially peaked at Number 12 on the Billboard Hot 100. Since its release in 1994, the song continues to make an impact on the Billboard chart every Christmas season.

"All I Want for Christmas" also impacts the music charts in Japan, United Kingdom, Australia, Germany, and several other places. Last year, the single reached the top of the US Holiday 100, and it also went to Number 1 in Hungary and Belgium.

"All I Want for Christmas" has sold over 14 million copies, becoming one of the top-selling singles of all time. The follow-up single "Joy to the World," was recreated as an electronic dance song. It reached the US Hot Dance Club Play chart at Number 17. It also continues to impact music charts during the Holiday season.
