Fredric Brandt Suicide Update: "Baron of Botox" Doc Found Hanging in his Coconut Grove Home
Dermatologist Frederic Brandt, whose loyal customers included several big-name celebrities, such as Madonna and model Stephanie Seymour, was found dead in his home in Miami, FL over the weekend. Brandt was 65-years-old.
"He passed away this morning. He was suffering from an illness. Everyone who knows him is devastated," publicist, Jacquie Trachtenberg, said according to the New York Post. "I worked with him for over 20 years and he was an amazing man, not only was he a brilliant doctor, but he was the kindest human being."
According to the Miami Herald, Brandt's housekeeper found him in his Coconut Grove home. Herald reporter Lesley Abravanel claimed that the late dermatologist was suffering from depression. Abravaenl tweeted, "Sources: Dr. Fredric Brandt was 'devastated' over comparisons to the protagonist on Tina Fey's new Netflix show, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. The character-which was widely believed to be a parody of him-was played by Martin Short."
Joan Kron, the contributing editor at large for Allure, confirmed that Brandt was upset over the character.
"The show definitely deeply hurt him, he was being made fun of because of the way he looks," Trachtenberg confirmed as well. "It is mean, and it was bullying. But the show was not the reason for his depression, and it was not the reason he would take his own life."
Brandt, whose business was built on his skin care products, was known for experimenting with several types of skin fillers, such as Botox. He also earned the nickname as the "Baron of Botox."
In an old interview with the New York Times, Brandt had said, "I want people to feel they haven't given up on life and are still in the game"
The cause of death has not been determined.
