Honda Reveals Redesigned Civic
The Japanese carmaker Honda unveiled a redesigned version of its best selling Civic model at the New York International Auto Show.
Bloomberg reports that the new Civic has been redesigned with sportier lines and curves to meet the demand of young consumers. The Civic has long been popular among young people and is often the first car that many people in the United States own. Roughly half of the 20 million Civics that have been sold around the world were in the United States.
The company long dominated the market because of this fact, but has recently lost some market share, prompting the Civic's redesign. Civic sales fell 3 percent in 2014, but the Honda Civic and Accord are still the most popular cars with owners under the age of 35. Honda has maintained this position for the last 11 years and does not want to see a competitor close the gap.
The new Civic will be available in several models including a coup, an Si, a 5-door hatchback, and Turbo-R. In addition to the new exterior design, the new Civics will also be equipped with a new Honda engine called the VTEC Turbo.
According to Honda's website, the VTEC is a 4-cylinder engine and is available in 1, 1.5, and 2 liter versions depending on the Honda model in question and the desires of the consumer. The VTEC is said to be more fuel efficient than its predecessors and it will also allow Honda vehicles to comply with new European emissions standards.
The new Civic will be built at two Honda facilities in North America. The locations are Alliston, Ontario, and Greensburg, Indiana.
