Cleveland Browns Update: Quarterback Johnny Manziel to Be Back Next Month

Cleveland Browns head coach Mike Pettine confirmed that Johnny Manziel would be back on the field within a month.

Pettine stated that the quarterback will participate in the team's workouts, which start on April 20. Manziel checked into a treatment facility late January in order to improve his character.

The Browns had released this statement at the time: "Johnny knows there are areas in which he needs to improve in order to be a better family member, friend and teammate and he thought the off-season was the right time to take this step. On behalf of Johnny and his family, we're asking for privacy until he rejoins the team in Cleveland."

According to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, Manziel's exact release date from the program is unknown but a source with knowledge of the situation stated that Manizel will complete the program in early April.

During the NFL Annual Meeting in Phoenix, AZ, Browns general manager Ray Farmer provided very vague answers in regards to Manziel.

When asked if Manziel would be back for the workouts, Farmer said, "I don't think it's in doubt. Again, I'm not the point person in that. So I would defer to those kind controlling his care and let them decide what that looks like."

Farmer was also asked if he believed the treatment would negatively affect Manziel's ability to become the starting quarterback.

Farmer replied, "That'd be the equivalent of me telling you that I could predict the future and tell you that he's not prepared. If he is prepared and he demonstrates the things that he needs to demonstrate, then yeah he should get every opportunity to be the guy."

Manziel will compete with newly signed veteran, Josh McCown, Connor Shaw and Thad Lewis for the starting position.
