Dunkin' Donuts Employee Breaks Thief's Toy Gun as He Attempts to Steals $90 in Change [DETAILS]
How far could a criminal go in order to steal $90? Quite a bit, it seems. Two men in Rhodes Island have been apprehended after attempting to steal a bag containing $90 in loose change from a Dunkin' Donuts employee over the weekend, according to reports.
A female employee from the popular doughnut and coffee chain was at the Citizens Bank on Academy Avenue in Providence, Rhode Island on Saturday afternoon when a man approached her. The thief, Hector Barreto, 29, demanded that she hand over the bag, according to WPRI news.
The employee realized that he was not holding a real gun, but it was in fact a plastic one. She bravely tackled him, broke the gun and he took off running.
The employee and other witnesses chased Barreto who eventually hid in a laundry room of a home a few blocks down from where the incident occurred.
Barreto was not the only one arrested. A second man, 19-year-old Richard Arenas, was charged with driving with a suspended license after police say Barreto entered his vehicle following the robbery.
The police eventually tracked the two men down and they are currently being held in jail, according to the same report.
Meanwhile, in another Dunkin' Donuts branch in Melbourne, Florida, police are seeking an armed robbery suspect who entered the store on Saturday and stole an undisclosed amount of money. The suspect was wearing a mask and his hands were covered with gloves, according to Florida Today News. Those with information on the incident are asked to call CRIMELINE at 1-800-423-TIPS.
