Tennessee Titans Update: Sign Deals with Linebackers Brian Orakpo and Derrick Morgan
The Tennessee Titans are building depth in the linebacker position.
Sources are reporting that the Titans have signed outside linebackers Brian Orakpo and Derrick Morgan.
Orakpo, who spent six seasons with the Washington Redskins, will make $8 million a year. The deal is reportedly four-years worth $32 million with $13.5 million guaranteed according to FOXSports.com's Mike Garafolo.
When healthy, Orakpo averaged nearly 10 sacks per season. In two of these past three seasons, however, the 28-year-old has suffered from torn pectoral muscles. In 2014, the Redskins had used their franchise tag on Orakpo, who ended up only playing seven games. He made $11.455 million last year. In his career, Orakpo has amassed a total of 254 combined tackles and 40 sacks.
Without Orakpo, the Redskins will most likely be focused on drafting linebackers.
Brian McNally with CBS Local wrote:
"Orakpo's departure leaves a hole at that right outside linebacker spot opposite Ryan Kerrigan. But the Redskins have options in the upcoming NFL draft, which is loaded with top edge rushing prospects, including Dante Fowler (Florida), Shane Ray (Missouri), Randy Gregory (Nebraska) and Vic Beasley (Clemson), among others. They could also sign a veteran like Dwight Freeney still on the open market as a short-term solution to pair with second-year linebacker Trent Murphy."
Orakpo was selected in the first round of the 2009 NFL draft out of Texas.
Morgan, who started his career with the Titans in 2010, agreed to a four-year deal worth $30 million with a $10.5 million guarantee, reported by Garafolo. The 26-year-old has been very consistent for the Titans. In 66 career games, he recorded 191 combined tackles and 23 sacks.
He played as a 4-3 defensive end before shifting to a 3-4 outside linebacker.
