MWC 2015: Microsoft Announces Two New Mid Range Smartphones, Lumia 640 and 640 XL
Microsoft has announced the two new mid range smartphones at the on going Mobile World Congress - the new Lumia 640 and Lumia 640 XL. The regular 640, with 5-inch HD display is an upgrade from the 630 whereas the 5.7-inch XL version is a step up from the large Lumia 1320.
Both of these newly announced Lumia phones include a year's subscription to Office 365 (costs $70 otherwise).
Both of these devices will be available in 3G and LTE versions, with single and dual SIM in both of those depending on the market.
Lumia 640 is powered by a Snapdragon 400-series quad core processor at 1.2 GHz and features Gorilla Glass 3, 1 GB of DRAM and 8 GB of storage. The rear 8MP camera is a wide angle lens with auto-HDR and dynamic LED flash. The battery capacity is 2500 mAh.
Lumia 640 XL sports similar specification to the smaller model but at 5.7 inches, namely a 1280X720 screen and a battery capacity up to 3000 mAh. It also has a 13MP camera that features Zeiss optics.
Both devices will run Windows 8.1 out of the box but are upgradable to Windows 10.
Microsoft did not announce the price of the either phone immediately, but PC World is reporting that the 640XL will cost $211 for a 3G version and $245 for an LTE model.
