American Idol 2015 Update: Watch all 12 Guys Duke it out Here
The top 12 male contestants on "American Idol" performed for America's votes for the first time this season and they proved to the world that being on a live show will not deter them from their dreams. Although there is a learning curve when it comes to live performances, none of the singers flopped last night.
Watch all 12 performances here:
1. Adam Ezegelian started off the night at the Fillmore Theater in Detroit with his rendition of Twisted Sister's "I Wanna Rock." Judge Jennifer Lopez called his performance "contagious." Although the judges loved his energy and his gritty voice, his lack of versatility and real substance could hurt him down the line.
2. Michael Simeon followed up with Michael Bolton's "How Am I Supposed to Live Without You." Judge Keith Urban commended his ability to stay "right in the moment." Although Bolton displayed nice control while signing a ballad, judge Harry Connick stated that it was a bit pitchy.
3. Savion Wright changed up the pace with Train's "Hey Soul Sister." Although Wright flubbed at the lyrics a little bit, his whole performance had an easy groove to it that connected with the crowd. Urban, however, criticized his song choice and Lopez advised him to connect with the camera more.
4. Rayvon Owen put a Motown spin on Nick Jonas's "Jealous." Lopez also advised him to try and connect with the camera and give a little bit more attitude.
5. Daniel Seavey put his own unique touch to the song, "I'm Yours" by Jason Mraz. The 15-year-old contestant looked adorable with a ukulele but does not have a huge range.
6. Mark Andrew stuck to what he knows best with his strong song choice, "The Weight" by The Band.
7. Trevor Douglas's version of Gavin Degraw's "Best I Ever Had" was a tad shaky vocally. Douglas, whoever, was able to bring the right amount of energy to the stage, drawing in the audience. Urban called him a "visual performer."
8. Clark Beckham was also able to work the crowd when he sang "When a Man Loves a Woman" by Percy Sledge. His emotional connection earned him a standing ovation from Urban.
9. Riley Bria sang Eric Church's "Homeboy" and although he did a decent job, especially when he hit a nice note toward the end, his performance did not stand out. However, Harry stated that Bria reminded him "so much of Keith."
10. Quentin Alexander dominated the night with his version of "I Put a Spell on You" by Screamin' Jay Hawkins. The performance was dynamic and emotional. Urban stated that it "was like a Grammy performance."
11. Nick Fradiani also gave a stellar performance. He sang Ed Sheeran's "Thinking Out Loud." Lopez called his performance "one of the best."
12. Qaasim Middleton closed out the night with his rendition of "Uptown Funk" by Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars. Middleton, who likes to add choreography, was great to watch despite some vocal issues here and there.
The top 12 girls will take the stage tonight at 8 p.m. ET/PT on FOX.
