iTunes Latest Update: Apple Looking to Hire Music Journalists
Apple has posted a new job ad looking for experienced journalists with a background in music and pop culture and according to experts this could be a part of the efforts to improve editorial content focusing on music and pop culture.
The new job ad for an editorial producer role at iTunes posted to LinkedIn, Apple is on the lookout for someone based in London who has "specific expertise in music journalism" and must also be a "seasoned writer with broad pop culture background." The candidate will also be responsible for working in close collaboration with the head of content from various departments to "shape and define editorially driven merchandising promotions."
The vacancy comes following recent reports that suggest Apple is looking to unveil a new music subscription service.
"The new job ad sheds further light on the likelihood that Apple is working on launching a new online music subscription service to rival the likes of Spotify, Pandora (NYSE:P), and Google (NASDAQ:GOOGL)-owned YouTube," according to Bidnessetc.
Apple might have already begun making a shift towards the expansion of editorial content by recently hiring longtime BBC Radio 1 DJ, Zane Lowe, who will be moving to the US to work on Apple's curated music service that is expected to roll out with future iterations of iOS 8, the report added.
The new subscription-based music service is expected to be bundled into iOS 8.4, which is under development. The subscription service is expected to cost under $10 per month.
