‘Dancing with the Stars’ Season 20 Partnerships Announced
The stars for the 20th edition of ABC's hit show, "Dancing with the Stars," have been announced today on "Good Morning America," and the impressive cast includes an Olympian, a legendary artist and a war veteran.
"We wanted to put the best of the best together for the 10th anniversary [season]," executive produce Rob Wade stated reported by USA TODAY. "It's got a classic Dancing with the Stars feel, where you have some great human-interest stories, some great celebrity names, some great dancing, some great comedy and humor."
Some of the list's biggest names include Olympic gold medalist gymnast Nastia Liukin, American singer Patti LaBelle, television icon Suzanne Somers, actress Rumer Willis and singer Redfoo. Liukin will be paired with pro Derek Hough, who many thought was not going to return due to his commitment in the Radio City Spring Spectacular show.
"This all happened literally two days ago," Hough, an Emmy-winning choreographer, said on "GMA." "I had a little heartbreak not being able to part of the 20th season. I'm so glad we were able to make it happen. Let's make it the best season ever."
LaBelle will dance with last season's new addition Artem Chigvintsev, while Somers will take the stage with veteran pro Tony Dovolani. Willis, the daughter of actor Bruce Willis and actress Demi Moore, has been paired with Valentine Chmerkovskiy and Redfoo, the "Party Rock Anthem" singer will show off his dancing skills with pro Emma Slater.
"It feels like the perfect time in my life to do this. For all the books I've been writing about health and taking care of yourself and a new way to age, this is my opportunity to prove that it's not the years, it's your energy. And I have great energy," Somers, 68, said.
Willis, 26, said, "I just thought, 'Why not?' I've been working on all aspects of singing and acting and I've always wanted to dance. It's not the worst day when you can be part of a show where professional, award-winning dancers teach you how to ballroom dance."
Other stars that may not be as well known include U.S. Army veteran Noah Galloway, "Hunger Games" actress Willow Shields, "Shark Tank" mogul Robert Herjavec, R5 singer-songwriter Riker Lynch, model Charlotte McKinney and football player Michael Sam.
Galloway, who lost his left arm and left leg in an IED attack in Iraq while serving the nation, will not let anything stop him from dancing. He has been paired with pro Sharna Burgess. Shields, the youngest competitor to sign on with the show at just 14-years-old, will dance with Mark Ballas. For the complete list of stars and their partners, scroll down.
One more celebrity will be revealed before the premiere. The star will dance with last season's pro-winner Whitney Carson. Carson won with the "Fresh Prince of Bel Air" actor Alfonso Ribeiro, who offered a piece of advice for the stars.
"I would say to everybody is that simply it is a marathon, not a sprint," Ribeiro said. "It's not about winning week one, it's about winning that final week. You have to pace yourself."
The four-judge panel will include Leo Goodman, Carrie Ann Inaba, Bruno Tonioli and Julianne Hough. Hosts Tom Bergeron and Erin Andrews will return as well.
"DWTS" will premiere on March 16 at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
