Brooklyn Nets Update: Team will Sign Thomas Robinson after his Waivers Clear
The Brooklyn Nets and forward Thomas Robinson are on the verge of signing a 10-day deal that is expected to lead to a contract for the rest of the season, sources stated according Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports.
Robinson, who was traded from the Portland Trail Blazers to the Denver Nuggets during the last day of the NBA deadline, had requested via his agent to be waived due to a lack of playing time. The Nuggets honored his request and his NBA waivers are expected to be cleared on Tuesday at 5 p.m. ET.
According to ESPN.com, Robinson was one of the three players in the 2012 NBA draft that the Nets wanted. The other two players were Anthony Davis, who went to the New Orleans Pelicans and Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, who was drafted by the Charlotte Hornets.
The 6-foot-10 forward made 32 appearances for the Trail Blazers, averaging 12 minutes. In 172 career games, Robinson averaged 4.6 points and 4.4 rebounds. The San Antonio Spurs, Phoenix Suns, Miami Heat and Charlotte Hornets reportedly had discussions with Robinson before he chose to go to New York, according to RealGM's Shams Charania.
Robinson, 23, was the fifth overall draft pick in 2012. He was selected by the Sacramento Kings, where he failed to make an impression. Midway through his rookie season, the Kings traded Robinson to the Houston Rockers. By July 2013, the Rockets traded him to the Trail Blazers.
Robinson, who will turn 24 next month, is a very young player who has the potential to shine in Brooklyn.
The Nets recently acquired Thaddeus Young and lost veteran Kevin Garnett to the Minnesota Timberwolves.
The Nets (23-31) are ranked eighth in the Eastern Conference.
