Modern Family will air episode filmed entirely using iPhones and iPads

An upcoming episode of "Modern Family" was filmed entirely on Apple devices.

The episode called "Connection Lost," which will be shown next Wednesday, Feb. 25, is an episode shot almost exclusively on mobile devices, an approximation of the way that many actual modern American families (of a certain class) communicate today.

The upcoming episode will see Claire Dunphy, the mom, trying to get in touch with her daughter Haley whom she had a fight with and is trying to reconcile with her. However when more conventional methods fail to connect, Claire turns to modern technology to try alternative means to get in touch with her daughter.

The entire episode is said to have been shot using the iPhone 6 and iPad Air 2 tablets. The purpose is not to promote Apple products, but it's loosely based on real-life communication.

According to Steve Levitan, the show's co-creator and executive producer, the story was based on his real life and how he communicates with his daughters. Levitan states, "We all had that reference in our heads - this is how families are communicating today. How do we use this to tell a story?"

This isn't the first episode to prominently feature Apple products, as a 2010 episode saw featured character Phil Dunphy (Ty Burrel) excited about waiting in line for the new iPad.
