Oklahoma City Thunder Rumors: Reggie Jackson Requests Trade
Reggie Jackson's agent has put in a request for a trade, league sources reported to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports.
The Oklahoma City guard wants to be traded before the deadline on Thursday. Sources told CBSSports' NBA insider Ken Berger that general manager Sam Presti will most likley trade the 24-year-old in order to avoid the luxury tax.
Jackson has hinted to the organization that he would be resistant to resigning with the Thunder when he enters restricted free agency at the end of the season. The Thunder have previously traded James Harden and Jeff Green before they hit the restricted free agent market. However, since the Thunder are currently just outside of playoff contention, sitting in ninth place in the Western Conference, they could use Jackson off of the bench.
Jackson is reportedly seeking a starting point guard position, a role that would be very hard to get in Oklahoma City with Russell Westbrook ahead of him. Westbrook was just named the All-Star MVP.
"That will be a good feeling once the deadline hits to know where you're at and just go out there and compete," Jackson had said previously.
Although Jackson has been putting up big numbers this season, his role for the Thunder has diminished since they landed Dion Waiters. In the first 32 games of the season, Jackson averaged 32.4 minutes. In his last 20 games, he has averaged only 18.0 minutes.
Jackson averages 12.8 points, 4.2 assists and 4.0 rebounds in 28.0 minutes.
