Bronco Coach Gary Kubiak Shaping up Offense with Peyton Manning in Mind

Gary Kubiack is preparing to have quarterback Peyton Manning next year.

The new head coach for the Denver Broncos stated that although he has not been assured of Manning's return, he will still shape his offense with the veteran quarterback in mind.

"We're going to run the Denver Bronco offense and that's a big challenge for me, meshing things together and getting ready to go do the things that Peyton does so well, and has for many, many years," Kubiak said during his news conference at the NFL combine in Indianapolis on Wednesday.

He added, "You do what your players do best. It's interesting to me - I've been asked over the course of the last month since I've been in Denver about the bootleg and those types of things. We had Joe (Flacco) in Baltimore last year and I think we booted maybe 25 times in the season.''

Kubiak, who likes to run a West Coast-style offense, has stated that he does not necessarily need a mobile quarterback as the center of his offense. Regardless of the plans Kubiak has in mind for Denver, the league prohibits Kubiak and Manning from talking about football during this time of the year. If Manning stays in Denver, he and Kubiak will have to agree on how the offense will play out.

"He's had his self-assessment or however you want to label that, and he feels good about moving forward," Kubiak said. "I think the process has worked the way that John and Peyton intended it to work. But I think it's been good."

Manning met with general manager John Elway and CEO Joe Ellis last week. The 39-year-old said that he is physically and mentally prepare to play a fourth season - his 18th overall in his career - with the Broncos.

Manning has to pass a physical before the Broncos decide on whether or not he will be on the roster come March 10th.
