Over 30 Charged With Food Stamp Fraud
More than 30 people have been nabbed for food stamp fraud in the North Country. Investigators aver that in the last two months, people used their food stamps in order to take food or alcohol at the Old Time Butcher Block store in Brushton, according to WCAX News in New York.
Police assert that it is not the first time the owner of that store, Dennis Sauve, has been charged with permitting the frauds. More arrests are expected.
Many websites point out gleefully that all the offenders are white. At Brushton, New York, where the fraud took place, with a population of about 480, there is a population in which 99.83% is white, while 0.42% is black. " In the "food stamp capital of the country," Owsley Country, Kentucky, 99.22% is white.
Many websites are quick to stess the white id offenders. For instance, addictinginfo.org says: "30 People Arrested For Food Stamp Fraud; Guess How Many Were Black?"
According to WPTZ News, the cops explain that most of the arrests take place after a probe for a year, started by the Franklin County Department of Social Services Fraud Unit. The Franklin County District Attorney's Office, the United States Department of Agriculture, and the New York State Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance also contribute to the probe.
Even the store owner, Denis Sauve, who is also white, was charged with "third-degree grand larceny and misuse of food stamps."
The interesting issue here is that while the food stamp program is the least abused welfare program compared to others, many people like to hold on fast to the idea "lazy blacks" cause the fraud and woes of government assistance.
However, this major food stamp fraud shows a list of white criminals, and does not fit any stereotype.
