Alex Rodriguez and the Yankees will Talk before Spring Training
The New York Yankees have agreed to meet with Alex Rodriguez before the start of spring training.
"It cannot hurt. There's no reason not to," general manager Brian Cashman said on Friday. "We are all gonna have to find our way through all that at some point. The only way to do that is to have a conversation."
In January, Rodriguez reached out to Yankees' new commissioner Rob Manfred in an attempt to mend his relationship with the organization. At that time, the Yankees declined. This time around, Rodriguez and his lawyer Jim Sharp reached out to Cashman and assistant GM Jean Afterman. The parties reportedly will have a lot to discuss.
Rodriguez was suspended by the league from August 8 through to the end of the 2014 season for his involvement with the now defunct Biogenesis of America clinic. Rodriguez reportedly received HGH (human growth hormone) from the clinic.
He then filed lawsuits against the Yankees, the Yankees team physician Dr. Chris Ahmad and MLB. These lawsuits have been dropped.
"We want a fully productive Alex Rodriguez," Cashman said. "What Alex's full potential is, we don't know at this time. If he's able to play third, it's another quiver in Joe's [Girardi] arrow to shoot."
"I think it's important," coach Girardi said. "A lot of stuff has transpired and you want to make sure everyone is on the same page. Alex is one of our players. It's our job to get the best out of him."
Rodriguez will report to camp on Feb. 25.
