Rex Ryan Re-inks Jets Tattoo, Changes it to a Buffalo Bills blue
Rex Ryan showed his commitment as the new head coach for the Buffalo Bills by re-inking his famous tattoo of his wife, Michelle, wearing nothing but a New York Jets Mark Sanchez jersey.
While in Arizona, Ryan went to a tattoo parlor called Old Town Ink in Scottsdale to get the jersey tattoo altered. Verhoek stated that before he did the inking job, he had received a call asking about whether or not he would be able to cover an old tattoo with a new color.
"It's like a girl in a jersey and I wanted to change the colors of it," Ryan reportedly said on the phone according to the Wall Street Journal.
Verhoek told Ryan that he would have to see the tattoo in person in order to make sure that the green was not too dark. After Verhoek concluded that the green was light enough to cover with blue, he started re-inking Ryan's arm. As he was inking the tattoo, Verhoek realized who his customer was.
"Oh s***, you're Rex Ryan?" Verhoek recalled. "He was in a full Buffalo Bills jumpsuit."
He added, "He was definitely cool. They were both nice, honest people."
Verhoek successfully filled in the jersey with the Buffalo Bills' blue. According to Verhoek, the infamous number 6 was already filled in, which makes sense since Sanchez had already left New York before the start of this season.
This time around, Ryan refrained from adding any jersey numbers on his new ink. The tattoo reportedly cost $80.
Ryan got his famous tattoo in 2010 while on vacation in Hawaii. Over the past five years, Ryan has altered the tattoo a few times.
After the regular season ended, the Jets, who went 4-12, fired Ryan. On January 12, Ryan was hired by the Bills.
