The high-speed Internet by Google, Google Fiber might be announced later this week for North Carolina, according to reports. The search giant is holding events in Raleigh-Durham and Charlotte next week according to WRAL Techwire which would possibly be related to Google Fiber.

"A formal announcement might come as early as next week at Google events in Raleigh and Durham, but the company won't say what those events are about," WRAL reported. "Speaking to WRAL TechWire, a source who asked to remain anonymous said Google is seeking bids to begin building a fiber network as early as April. 'Drill crews' have been sought for the fiber-laying process."

Publications including Charlotte Observer received the ambiguous invites for the Wednesday and Thursday events.

"Looks like Google Fiber has chosen Raleigh and Durham as its next expansion cities," tweeted New Raleigh with a picture of Google's invited.

There are no official comments about the scheduled event by Google.

As of now, Google Fiber is only available in Austin, TX, Kansas City, MO and Provo, UT.
