Apple Set To Debut Its Biggest Ever 12.9-Inch iPad Next Year: Report
Apple is reportedly working on its biggest ever 12.9-inch iPad with an expected launch sometime next year.
Apple, the renowned tech company, appears to be getting comfortable with large screens for its mobile devices after the rumored iPhone 6, which is expected to come with a screen size of 5.5 inches. The Cupertino tech giant might be looking to apply the rumored big screen concept to its ailing iPad with hopes of turning around the sales. According to a report by Bloomberg, citing people familiar with Apple's plans, the large screen iPad with 12.9-inch display will enter production as early as next year.
Apple's biggest iPad in the current series measures 9.7 inches diagonally and some models sport 7.9-inch displays. Sources revealed that Apple has been working with its suppliers for over a year to make the large screen devices possible. This would be the company's first attempt at moving out of its comfort zone in making bigger screens for its iPads as well as iPhones.
The latest efforts, even if just rumors, follow the company's dropping sales of iPads for two straight quarters. Apple sold 13.3 million iPads in the second quarter this year, compared to 14.6 million units during the same time last year and 26 million units over the holidays. Lack of product range has resulted in the declining sales of the iPads. Sources also added that Apple suppliers have started manufacturing a new 9.7-inch iPad and are soon to begin production of a new iPad mini. These new devices are expected to set out in time for this year's holiday season, Apple's favorite time for selling its tablets.
Rumors surrounding Apple's 12.9-inch iPad have been making the rounds for almost a year. Last November, engineering challenges delayed the launch of the 12.9-inch iPad. But Apple's iWatch and iPhone 6 models have stolen the limelight for the past months.
Apple is finally expected to debut its iPhone 6 alongside the coveted iWatch at a special event scheduled for Sept. 9. More details on the new devices will arrive next month at the time of launch.
