Chicago Bears have a new defensive coordinator.

Vic Fangio, the former defensive coordinator of the San Francisco 49ers, has picked the Bears over the Washington Redskins, CBSSports.com NFL Insider Jason La Confora reported.

Bears general manager, Ryan Pace stated on Monday that the club is working on a contract with Fangio's representatives. Fangio, 56, had interviewed with the team on Saturday before meeting with the Redskins on Sunday for a second interview.

According to multiple sources, after a few days, Fangio made his decision to join head coach John Fox in Chicago.

Fangio was the defensive coordinator for four years in San Francisco. Under Fangio, the 49ers's defense became one of the best in the league. During Fangio's first three seasons, the 49ers were the only team in the league to be ranked in the top five for points allowed, run defense, rushing average, first downs allowed, opponent quarterback rating, yards allowed, plays for gains, takeaways and third-down defense.

In 2014, despite injuries, the team was ranked fifth in total defense with 321.4 yards per game. They ranked 10th in scoring defense with 21.2 points per game.

Fangio was released from his contract when the 49ers promoted Jim Tomsula to head coach. Fangio reportedly did not want to stay with the team unless he was promoted to head coach.

Prior to joining the coaching staff in San Francisco, Fangio was the defensive coordinator for the Carolina Panthers, the Indianapolis Colts and the Houston Texans.

Fangio will be taking over Mel Tucker's post. Under Tucker, the Bears' defense was ranked 30th overall over the past two seasons. The team ranked 31st in 2014 and 30th in 2013 in points allowed.

Update: The Redskins have hired Joe Barry as their new defensive coordinator, a source confirmed according to ESPN.com. Barry has worked as the linebackers coach for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and San Diego Chargers. He had a brief stint as a defensive coordinator for the Detroit Lions from 2007-08.

In his eight-year career with the Buccaneers, Barry had worked with then-general manager Bruce Allen, who is now the president of the Redskins. Barry also coached with Jay Gruden, who is now the Redskins' head coach.

Since the end of the regular season, the Redskins have added general Scott McCloughan and line coach Bill Callahan.
