Jan 19 Is The Last Day To Get Google Glass, As Google Is Stopping The Sales - For Now
Google Glass had an awful debut, and its sales are being halted, for now. Reportedly the company plans to reboot the vision of Internet connected eyewear.
"Jan. 19 will be the last day to get the Glass Explorer Edition. In the meantime, we're continuing to build for the future, and you'll start to see future versions of Glass when they're ready," read the announcement on Google Glass website.
"Glass was in its infancy, and you took those very first steps and taught us how to walk. Well, we still have some work to do, but now we're ready to put on our big kid shoes and learn how to run."
Tony Fadell, CEO of Nest, will look after the reorganized Glass business. Nest - smart-appliance maker - was acquired by Goole for $3.2 billion last year.
The Google Glass was first released in April 2013 to beta testers who applied to test the Internet-connected eyewear through its Explorer program. It was released to the public in mid-2014 but got a lukewarm response amid complaints about privacy, technical shortcomings.
The next version of the device will be available sometime this year. And this time it wont be released to testers.
The shares of Google were not affected following the news.
