Actor/ Director Woody Allen is all set to write and direct his first TV show for Amazon which will be available exclusively on Prime Instant Video in the US, UK and Germany. The half hour show has already received the order for an entire season, even as the air date for the series remains undecided.

Roy Price, Vice President of Amazon Studios during a press release said, "Woody Allen is a visionary creator who has made some of the greatest films of all-time, and it's an honor to be working with him on his first television series," He went on to add, "From Annie Hall to Blue Jasmine, Woody has been at the creative forefront of American cinema and we couldn't be more excited to premiere his first TV series exclusively on Prime Instant Video next year."

During the same press release, Allen joked, "I don't know how I got into this. I have no ideas and I'm not sure where to begin. My guess is that Roy Price will regret this,"

Netflix and Amazon are currently locked in a battle for supremacy in the video streaming market. Amazon is yet to generate a hit along the lines of Netflix's "House of Cards" or HBO's "Game of Thrones"- in spite of their cross dressing sitcom "Transparent" winning two trophies on Sundays Golden Globe awards. The deal with Allen signals Amazon's intention to produce original shows that gives them exclusive rights to video content.

Prime Service is a library of digital content that includes TV shows and movies from Amazon. The service costs $99 a year. While Amazon has refrained from disclosing the number of subscribers they have, analysts estimate the number to between 25 to 35 million users.
