The prologue of Christopher Nolan's upcoming World War II movie, Dunkirk will be released in IMAX theaters this weekend. This new film based on actual historical events appears to be another war masterpiece in the making. The first look at the film which really shows some gritty and nail-biting scenes showing valor, courage, and hope in the midst of death and defeat.

Warner Bros released the trailer probably so it can run using the 35mmand 70mm format in select IMAX cinemas during this weekend's premiere of the latest and highly-anticipated Rogue: A Star Wars Story. The seven-minute footage will surely be breathtaking and will make fans of war films ask for more.

This sneak peak of Dunkirk is just a pretty small representation of what the whole film could deliver. But it looks impressive so far. This is Christopher Nolan's first attempt on a historically based film and it looks most likely Dunkirk will get him a Best Director nod. This commemorative visual representation of the actual events that happened in Dunkirk, France during World War II will be Christopher Nolan's ticket to future Academy awards.

Independent also posted the list of cinemas around the world where the prologue of Dunkirk will be initially released. Dunkirk will be Christopher Nolan's first film since 2014's Interstellar. Some of the acclaimed filmmaker's works include Inception and The Dark knight trilogy.

Dunkirk follows the tradition of wartime classics like The Longest Day and Saving Private Ryan in which it will be billed with an all-star cast and with a really interesting multi-faceted storyline. The film will cover the actual events of the eight-day skirmish that eventually saved the lives of 330,000 Allied soldiers.

Some of the stars that will play prominent roles in the film include Kenneth Brannagh, who will play as one of the British Navy's top brass, Tom Hardy, Mark Rylance, and Cillian Murphy --- the latter two playing the key roles to show the emotional component of the film. As reported by Cinemablend, it is still unclear whether the film will have a PG-13 or an R rating.  Nolan's films in the past were known for its dark and realistic presentations earning them an R rating.

Dunkirk looks like a solid historical war film and one of the grittiest and realistic war films in the last three decades. The theatrical release of Dunkirk is slated to be on July 21, 2017.
