Will Smith Justified His Decision For Choosing Suicide Squad Over Independence Day: Resurgence
Last August, Suicide Squad was released and acknowledged as the eighth top-grossing film of 2016. Part of the main characters was Will Smith, who played as Floyd Lawton, also known as Deadshot.
Will Smith prior to accepting the role as Deadshot in David Ayer's movie, was offered to play as Steven Hiller for the second time around for the sequel of Independence Day entitled Independence Day: Resurgence, which was introduced in year 1996. The role Steven Hiller had helped Will Smith build his name in Hollywood.
According to Cinema blend, Smith decided to decline director Roland Emmerich's offer for Independence Day because he wanted to try a new character as a superhero with Suicide Squad. Will Smith clarified his choice when asked about his choice of doing Suicide Squad instead of Independence Day during an interview for his upcoming film Collateral Beauty at Facebook Headquarters.
He said, "I had the two screenplays in front of me for the Independence Day 2 and for Suicide Squad. I had to choose between the two of those. Even the choice of going to Suicide Squad --- nothing about the qualities of the movie --- but the choice of trying to go forward versus clinging and clawing backwards. I do want to aggressively go forward and do new things and create and hopefully be able to stumble upon a new heyday."
On the other hand, reports from Movie web, good news for the Suicide Squad fans as there will be sequel for the villain filled movie in which they plan retain the original cast, including Will Smith. Other than that, he also have several forthcoming movies lined up such as Bad Boys for Life, which is expected to begin filming in 2017 and a film Collateral Beauty which will premier on December 16 together with Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
