Apple Hikes App Prices In Europe, Canada. App Store Breaks Sales Record On New Year's Day
January 1, 2015 was "the single biggest day ever in App Store sales history," according to Apple press release. On that one day customers spent nearly half a million dollars on App Store.
App Store, of Apple is also having an outstanding January. According to the released announcement, the store managed to clear nearly half of billion dollars in sales in just first seven days of month.
The announcement went on to boast a record breaking sales in 2014 as well - rising up to 50 percent in 2014. App Store generated more than $10 billion in revenue for developers as well.
Part of the success might be credited to the new programming language introduced by Apple - Swift, that lets developers created feature rich applications more easily.
"We're so proud of the creativity and innovation developers bring to the apps they create for iOS users and that the developer community has now earned over $25 billion," said Eddy Cue, Apple's senior vice president of Internet Software and Services.
However, not everything was boasting in the announcement. Quietly, Apple announced that it will be jacking up the App Store prices outside US by the end of the week.
"Within the next 36 hours, prices on the App Store will increase for all territories in the European Union as well as in Canada and Norway, decrease in Iceland, and change in Russia," the memo read, as cited by 9to5mac.
"These changes are being made to account for adjustments in value-added tax (VAT) rates and foreign exchange rates. We will simultaneously update the Pricing Matrix in Rights and Pricing in My Apps on iTunes Connect. We will also update the iOS Paid Applications and Mac OS X Paid Applications agreements, which will be available in Agreements, Tax, and Banking."
