Android security updates have started rolling out for the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge recently. Read on below to know which vulnerabilities and bugs have been fixed.

Samsung's December security update for the Galaxy S7 Edge is in the firmware version G935FXXU1BPJG, according to Android Headlines. In Australia, users with their devices not locked in any wireless carrier can get the December security patch in the coming days and weeks. More countries are expected to follow suit.

Samsung was criticized in the past for infrequent security updates on their devices, but the company promised that it would regularly update its handsets' security starting with the Samsung Galaxy S6. True enough, the tech giant has provided software updates to users every month.

Android users should see these monthly updates as a top priority, given that it ensures the device's security and safety. Among those vulnerabilities fixed is the notification display error of shade locked state. This bug showed notifications or private information on the locked screen even though that's supposed to stay hidden, Android Headlines reported.

Another Samsung vulnerability fixed by the December security patch are the mobile hotspot getting activated without any user interaction and the hotspot password being exposed in the log. The latter has been removed in this month's update. Another vulnerability fixed is a Boot Receiver problem, among others.

Users who haven't received a notification about Samsung's latest security update can head to their device's Settings page. Once there, click About Device, select Software Update, and tap Download Updates Manually.

The December security update is rolling out via over-the-air or OTA, which means that users will have to wait for days or weeks to receive it. The patch is being released in stages to compatible handsets so the servers won't overload.

In other news, Samsung announced a new "black pearl" color for the Galaxy S7 Edge last week. The new, shiny shade is only available in the handset's 128GB version, though, CNET reported. Check out the new Galaxy S7 Edge color below.

Samsung will bypass Android 7.0 Nougat and release the Android 7.1.1 Nougat to the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge, according to Tech Times. The update is expected to head to those devices in early 2017. There are expectations that the Galaxy Note 5, Galaxy S6, S6 Edge, and S6 Edge Plus would also have the same operating system version instead of Android 7.0 Nougat.
