More NES Classic Edition Shipments Await Consumers, Says Nintendo; Amazon, Walmart, Target, Toys R Us To Restock The Mini NES Before Christmas
Nintendo of America's Reggie Fils-Aimé has assured consumers that there will be enough shipments of the most popular holiday gift of the season, the Mini NES Classic Edition. He shared that Amazon, Target, BestBuy, and Toys R Us are doing their best to restock the mini console.
Fils-Aimé discussed this very good news at Jimmy Fallon's show Wednesday where he showed off "Super Mario Run" and unveiled the Switch handheld gaming system. Yesterday he was interviewed by CNET with which he shared stock developments regarding the NES Classic, which is this year's most sought after toy.
The Nintendo executive said that the company dramatically underestimated the demand for the product. Units of NES Classic Edition literally flew out of the shelves of Toys R Us, Target, BestBuy, and Walmart minutes after the product's launch in November. It was reported that Amazon's server crashed due to the very high traffic received by the online retailer.
Fils-Aimé told CNET that consumers will be able to get their hands on the NES Classic Edition. He commended Toys R Us, GameStop, Walmart, and Target for doing a good job with shipment notifications. He assured consumers that there will be enough stock of NES Mini for the holiday season.
Though Fils-Aimé's statement is designed to placate disappointed consumers, some are not totally convinced. Forbes magazine noted that the rollout of new NES Mini stock from Nintendo or their retailers remains terrible. The business magazine describes the online ordering of the NES Classic as a total disaster.
This week saw the arrival of new shipments at Amazon, Toys R Us, Target, and BestBuy. Even fashion retailer Urban Outfitters joined the craze, offering limited items of the NES Mini last Monday. As previously expected, the NES Classic Editions were wiped out due to very high demand. Reggie Fil-Aime's appearance on the Jimmy Fallon Show can be seen here on this video.
