Time’s Person Of The Year 2016 Is Donald Trump; Online Communities Continue To Clash
President-elect Donald Trump has just been named Time's Person of the Year 2016 and it looks like the online community has been pushed to another tussle as many question the publications decision to make Trump the face of the year.
Early this week, Time revealed that its 2016 Person of the Year was none other than Trump, naming him the President of the Divided States of America. Trump changed the way the political game was played when he won the presidency this year, and now the U.S. President elect believes that he now represents "the workers of the world."
"I'm representing them, and they love me, and I love them," Trump claimed during his interview with the magazine for the Time Person of the Year 2016 cover story.
However, choosing Trump to be the 2016 Time's Person of the Year has caused mayhem on social media as online users express their shock over the publication's decision to name Trump the Person of the Year. On Twitter some have made memes out of Trump's cover on Time, others passing around a Time Person of the Year cover featuring Sauron from "The Lord of the Rings" while some others proudly put on glasses on Trump's face on the Time cover and then highlight the words, "Deal with it" on a new GIF.
Later on Time Editor-in-chief Nancy Gibbs explains the publications choice for the 2016 Time's Person of the Year selection, saying that each year they choose an individual who has had the most influence on events, for better, or for worse, to be their Person of the Year.
"It's hard to argue that anyone had more influence than Donald Trump over the events of this year," Gibbs went on to explain the video. The Times Editor-in-chief later on continues, saying that, though Trump certainly was the most influential person this year, "there is a profound argument whether his influence was for the better or the worse."
