Bad Code Update Triggers Yahoo, Bing Search Outage
Yahoo and Bing search engine services were disrupted on Friday due to a bad code update. The services have been restored now.
On Friday, users who typed search.yahoo.com got a message that "engineers are working quickly to resolve the issue." Search for Yahoo is being powered by Bing under a 10-year contract, announced in 2009.
Reportedly the search engine services were down for more than four hours.
"We are aware that Yahoo search is unavailable to some users. Our engineers are working to restore the service at the earliest," said a Microsoft spokesperson regarding the disrupted Bing service.
After the services were restored, Yahoo faced problem in handling the backlog of the search requests.
Yahoo was not available for the comment.
