Shailene Woodley Fights with Other Protestors Against the Construction of the Dakota Access Pipeline
The 25-year-old- actress Shailene Woodley, spent the Thanksgiving with several hundreds of protesters against the Dakota Access Pipeline held at the Standing Rock Sioux Reservation. The actress was interviewed with TYT Politics on Thursday. She was holding back her tears as she picked holes in the American Holiday.
In reference to her live Facebook post, the actress quoted, "I do know that today is a day that many call Thanksgiving, and it's a day where kids in elementary school and America are taught false narratives about our native brothers and sisters."
Woodley stated that even though the pipeline was planned to be constructed in Bismarck, North Dakota, a predominately white area, it was relocated in a reservation when it was marked that it may break the pipeline that can harm their water supply. She added that Thanksgiving was founded on a massacre and yet, they're with cops armed with snipers and rubber bullets.
Way back in October, Woodley was apprehended for criminal trespassing while she was against the construction of the oil pipeline. But she was pleaded not guilty to the charges that were filed against her with a maximum sentence of a month in jail and a $1,500 fine. She was also joined by other celebrities and that includes Mark Ruffalo, Rev. Jesse Jackson, Nikki Reed, and Jane Fonda that traveled to North Dakota to join the protest.
New York Times reported that federal officials planned to close the road to the protest campsite. The areas that will be affected will include north of the Cannonball River, the Oceti Sakowin camp, about 40 miles south of Bismarck, where opponents of the 1,170-mile Dakota Access Pipeline have assembled for months. Any person seen on the land after December 5 will be with charged with trespassing.
ET reported that the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe's request was declined by the federal judges on Sunday, which is to stop the establishment of the pipeline which they said, will affect and wipe out sacred sites and pollute ground water.
