Leaked Image Of Xiaomi Laptop, Looking Quite Similar to MacBook Air, Is Fake
Xiaomi said Tuesday that a photo circulating the Internet, alleged to be Xiaomi laptop, quite similar to MacBook Air, is not real.
A blog had first reported that Xiaomi is planning to introduce a laptop powered by an Intel processor, 16GB RAM at $480. The story created headlines across various publication, mostly due to its striking similarity with Apple's MacBook Air.
The report had embedded an image of the alleged Xiaomi laptop, sporting a Xiaomi's orange Mi logo on its screen panel and an orange button on the top right corner of the keyboard. However, these images were superimposed onto an old computer mock up, iPhone Hacks reported.
"That's false news," Xiaomi Communications Manager Kaylene Hong told Tech in Asia Tuesday. However, Xiaomi did not explicitly state that it's not working on a line of computers.
Xiaomi has been accused of stealing designs of Apple. Lei Jun, Xiaomi's founder and CEO, wears Steve Jobs's signature iconic blue jeans, black shirt and tennis shoes during product announcements. Jun recently used Jobs' signature "One more thing" on an occasion.
The next flagship of Xiaomi is slated to be released in January. The company just raised $1.1 billion at a $45 billion valuation.
